Old Church & House
Interview with Anna Neva

Herrala / Koski

Much of this data was gathered by Joan Martin. A lot of her information was gotten from old church records in Finland.
Also, Mervi Korkiakoski of Oulu, Finland (4th cousin of James Hoyhtya), added some more information, and insight into the family. Mervi said that the surname law came into Finland in 1920, and before that, people had the name of the house, so if they moved, they got the house name. That's why there might be so many surnames. Old church records were also much of the source of Mervi's information. Thank you Joan & Mervi.
